What?
The WotWots!
In 2009 Pukeko Pictures (a Richard Taylor, Tania Rodger and Martin Baynton venture) created a humorous, fun-filled television series for pre-schoolers, called the WotWots.
Series one follows the delightful adventures of two soft, puppet-like aliens - a brother and sister- who come to explore planet Earth in their steam powered spaceship and land in a local zoo. Amazed by what they see, they scoot around in hover-chairs on a mission to discover all the exotic creatures that live there.
The WotWots wonder WHO they are and WHAT they'll look like when they are fully grown adults. Will they look like one of the zoo animals outside?
DottyWot, the sister, is the more patient and considered of the two. She pilots the ship and operates its computer through a musical keyboard. She is supportive of her boisterous brother, though he does test her patience. At times she is a little too bold, but her delight with life is infectious.
SpottyWot, her brother is more impulsive. He prefers to leap first and ask questions later. He has a full-throttle enthusiasm for everything he does, but is always considerate towards his sister and will listen to her words of wisdom - if he stops to think about them. SpottyWot is also a wonderful and inventive artist; he has a big whiteboard and likes to express his ideas with imaginative drawings.
The WotWots are currently broadcast in over 20 different countries around the world. A ratings success, SpottyWot and DottyWot have been a big hit with young viewers.

Despite being absolutely the wrong age to watch this show, I've been getting up early to catch it on TV and found 'The Wotwots' absolutely delightful! I especially love SpottyWot and his drawings, which are genuinely amusing and tickle even the serious old minds. This pre-school show dwarfs all others in my opinion, largely due to it's excellent animation and creative story-telling. Just fantastic. Wottywotwot to Weta! Hide.
